On February 3, 2007, Mme. Taoying Zhu, the newly appointed Consul General of P. R. China in Toronto consul arrived in Toronto. T he Confederation of Metro Toronto Chinese Canadian Organizations , Canada China Professional Association , Canadian Chinese General Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Jiangxi Association of Canada, North Chinese Community of Canada, and more than 10 local Chinese organizations with almost 100 Chinese immigrant representatives went to the airport to welcome Mme. Taoying Zhu, holding up numerous welcoming banners in the airport lobby. When the Consul General Zhu arrived in front of the welcoming troop, the immigrants delivered bunch of fresh flowers to her, held out pairs of warm, passionate hands to welcome her in Canada.
Mme. Zhu thanked everyone at the airport, shook hands with everybody, exchanged greetings and took group souvenir photos with them. She also accepted brief interviews by many local media at the airport. First Mme. Zhu expressed gratitude toward the immigrant comrades’ welcome in the blizzard and freezing weather. She then extended the early spring blessing through the media to the fellow countrymen living abroad. She said that Canada is an important country in North America. She had heard of Canada and the Province of Ontario for a long time and was extremely honored to be the Consul General in Toronto, for her first ever trip to Canada, appointed by the Chinese government. She indicated that, she will build on the foundation laid by previous excellent Consul Generals to earnestly fulfill the Consul General's duties and devotes to develop exchanges and cooperation in economies, trade, technology, culture, education and other areas between China and Canada (Ontario, Manitoba). Thus improving the relationship of two countries. She will continue to adhere to the principle of “People first, serving immigrants” to serve fellow Chinese living abroad.
Consul General Mme. Zhu was the assistant director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of People’s Republic of China, and before that she worked at the Consulate General in Sydney, the Embassy of the P.R.C. in the U.S.A., the Embassy of the P.R.C. in the Republic of the Philippines.
