CCGC Wins CFPA 20th Anniversary Special Contribution Award

      On April 1, 2009, a commemoration and commendation meeting coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) was held at Beijing Jingxi Hotel.  Mr. Jia Qinglin , Acting Member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the CPPCC, was present at the event and delivered a keynote speech. Mr. Hui Liangyu, Acting Member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council also attended the event alongside Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress Mr. Zhou Tienong and former Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress Mr. Cheng Siwei.    

      Over 700 representatives from the government departments and various circles of society attended the meeting. During the event, twenty organizations and companies that have made outstanding contributions to the CFPA over the course of its 20 year history were commended. The Canadian Chinese General Chamber of Industry & Commerce (CCGC) was among those commended. Meanwhile, the event witnessed the launch of the China Poverty Alleviation 10699999 Public Welfare Program.

      The merits of the CCGC and its receipt of the award were announced during the meeting. To quote the remarks made during the event, “as the first overseas Chinese chamber of commerce to support the CFPA in humanitarian relief, when adversity struck, the CCGC aroused the sense of longing and affection for the motherland among the overseas Chinese. We have witnessed the care and the support that the Chinese people in Canada have given to those who have suffered the severe catastrophes. After the ice and snow had melted and the earth had returned to calm, CCGC had done much more than give aid and donations, for they had gained the honor of being the first to contribute to the relief efforts of the CFPA in the capacity of an overseas chamber of commerce and had demonstrated their sense of responsibility, ”

      Vice Chairman of the Board Mr. Zhao Jingsong was present to accept the award on behalf of CCGC Board Chairman Mr. Shu Xin. Mr. Zhao Jingsong met the Chairman of the CPPCC Mr. Jia Qinglin and the Vice Premier of the State Council Mr. Hui Liangyu at the event. Mr. Jia Qinglin expressed thanks for what CCGC has done for Chinese poverty relief and congratulated it on receiving the Special Contribution Award. Mr. Zhao passed on the regards of Mr. Shu Xin and all of the CCGC memebers to Mr. Jia Qinglin and offered congratulations on the 20th anniversary of the CFPA. Before the meeting, Mr. Zhao had also held friendly talks with Fan Xiaojian, the Director of State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development and Duan Yingbi, the Chairman of the CFPA.
